Alright everyone, do me a favor and sign this petition.
Dixie State College: Take the word "Dixie" out.

This is a big issue to me. Dixie State College is in southern utah. It is in the process of becoming a University and a small controversy has been created over the name. That's a problem. That should be a big controversy! Dixie obviously has racist ties to the south and slavery. The area was settled by many former slave owners and they named southern utah "the new dixie." The school has ditched other racist ties such as the Dixie Rebel as a mascot in the past. The school also has racist ties in the past, such as black face and minstrel shows and other racist events. The school has a racist image and it needs to leave that behind as it becomes a university.
I'm a student at Dixie right now, but I won't stay if they keep the name Dixie. I don't want that on my resume or diploma. This is a petition I started. Lets get it going!
