So this board is basically dead and I want to try reviving it a bit! So what do you think about the decision in the Trayvon Martin case? I think it is horrible. Technically the right call was made by the jurors, but that's because the law itself is an abomination. Shouldn't we just be able to use our own judgement over what self defense is, rather than having a law complicate things? Ever since this law was put in place, claims of self defense have more than tripled. This law simply gives murderers a way out of jail, because the victim has no way of defening him or herself. I'm sure you all have read a lot about this lately, and it's nothing new to you, so I want your perspectives.
To me, Zimmerman was larger than Trayvon and was supposedly an aspiring cop. He should have had enough basic strength and ability to defend himself to get Trayvon off of him and get away. Beyond that, Zimmerman should never have been stalking him in the first place.

Zimmerman should have gotten manslaughter, because although he didn't murder Trayvon intentionally and it wasn't premeditated, he still killed him. It shouldn't have been self defense because Zimmerman initiated the confrontation by following a kid down the street with a gun after being told my police NOT to pursue him. Trayvon was defending himself by assaulting Zimmerman. Is it normal for someone to get away will killing someone by saying they were just defending themself from someone else who was also just defending themselves as well? Seems pretty shitty to me. The jurors don't give a fuck about Trayvon or his family. If it was their 17 year old son getting shot, they'd change their minds.
